There are many problems which can make a hard disk fail completely. Reading errors, high temperatures or forced restarts are just a few examples. When a hard disk shows sings of failure, you should consider backing up important data before it's too late. While monitoring your hard drive, WindowSMART will notify you of any issues that require your immediate attention. It provides detailed information about individual memory devices and a series of useful features, for preventing data loss.

The software's capabilities can be evaluated, free of charge, for 30 days, without any other restrictions. Before you install it on your computer, you should make sure that the SMART feature is enabled in BIOS. If everything is in order, the software's components will be installed in about a minute.

WindowSMART's interface presents a list of hard disks and removable memory devices, their physical information, as well as their SMART attributes. If the program detects a problem, it will mark the corresponding SMART attribute with a caution or warning symbol. Double clicking the entry will reveal additional details, on a separate window.

The presented information can be exported at any time, in HTML, CSV, TSV or TXT format. If you want to make sure that your reports are accurate and they contain recently acquired information, you may query or refresh your disks.

The best part about WindowSMART is the fact that it can be used to prepare for eventual disk failures. You can set it to send notification by email or mobile phone and to perform automatic actions. An important feature is the possibility of preparing an emergency backup task. If a disk shows signs of immediate failure, the program will attempt to back up critical data to a different location, on the hard drive or on a network. An option can be ticked to prevent the automatic backup if the hard disk is overheating. You can also set the application to run a specific program, with command line parameters.

Pros

The program provides you with critical information, regarding your hard disk's health. If something goes wrong, it will notify you by email or on your mobile phone. You can also prepare an emergency backup task, which will be carried out if the hard disk shows sings of failure.

Cons

The software can not process disks that are attached to a hardware RAID controller, unless they are configured in standalone mode. Besides letting you know if your hard disk is healthy or not, WindowSMART provides you with the means to prevent data loss, before your disk fails.
